F.A.Q!! How did you get into making music videos?/How do I get into the industry?
A friend of mine at University got his band - 'The Rotted' signed to Metalblade Records, he liked my work and had seen a couple of my skate videos so he asked me to shoot his band a video. There's two ways to get into the industry as far as I can see, either become a runner and graft, or buy a video camera and shoot, shoot, shoot as much as you can, beg bands to let you work for them, and make it happen.

What Qualifications do you need to be a Music Video Director?
I'll be honest, no band or client has ever asked what qualifications I have, I think they are more concerned with the quality of the work/ideas. That's not to say UNI isn't worthwhile, just make sure you try and broaden your horizons whilst you're there, no one is gonna hand you a job just because you got a 1st.

Will you shoot my band a video?
I love to hear from new bands, contact me via myspace or email me at adamtpowell@gmail.com, with a link to your band and ideally the track and we can discuss ideas

What are your rates?

Can I run for you/make tea?
Yes, probably, your best bet is to keep an eye out for any bulletins I post asking for runners. If you're not going to show up on the day PLEASE just don't bother getting in touch.

What gear do you use?
I use mainly Panasonic cameras, whatever lights I can get my hands on and edit on Final Cut Pro, you shouldn't be worried about what gear I use. Just do it because you love it and the rest will come :)

after finishing the video and uploading on the okay of the client
said client decided they wanted to and another sponsor and change the font on the end
i wasn't too happy with the end font myself

these are some pretty plain fonts. i prefer the top two so im going to see how they look

i have given up on the D&AD project. i wasn't enjoying at all. so to fill this space i am also going to be making a documentary about minus society who i am also making a music video for.
i feel this will benefit me a lot more because i get to make another documentary which i really enjoyed doing for my last project plus it will also inform the music video a lot more too

after speaking with the band awhile ago now. they told me they want a live looking video.
so i have been looking at videos of that caliber done on a professional bases.
i've found that T4 do a lot of live videos just don't have a crowd on set.
this is the sort of thing i'm aiming for.
i don't want a crowd because i don't want interference from them as i film





also orange unsigned that was aired in the summer has some really interesting live videos. the program was like x factor but not as mainstream.










the band aren't as extreme as the previous so i think that edits like the ones shown could work very well

new band

Minus Society. after finding a new band the ball has moved a little quicker than i with the original which is rather nice. so after asking them what they were all about i got this

well having a brief convo with joe it's simply this.

is based on an idea by media critic david ike. (the guy who's on the sample at the beginning)

essentiall he argues that the 5 illuminati families who control the world and want new world order create chaos to control people. if a fake problem arises (such as iraq) people react to the problem and its made to seem a lot more important a dire than it is. as a result the illuminati create a 'solution' i.e going to war in this case to control the masses and distract them from what's really happening... global econmoic policy and the new world order. world banking and the idea of making everyone one hemoginous group. it's a lot easier to control people when we all talk the same language, use the same currency and eat the same food.

eassentially its a song about the media and government being pawns to this idea. you create chaos, moral panic and its easier to scare people into letting anti terror laws being used to plant i.d cards and put audio equipment in lamp-posts

so the song basically says fuck that, open your eyes and see whats happening. follow your heart and ignore all this shit because it needs to stop. hence problem, reaction, solution... it's used everyday."
